 Geriatrics In The Sky

Why did I throw myself out of a perfectly good aeroplane for the first time?  Because my mates in the RGJ were doing it!  Six of us went to Netheravon for an army sport parachuting course back in the early 80’s, I tried a few more times and got to about seven or eight jumps and the money ran out, or should I say beer, bikes and girlfriends took over!

The bug had bitten though and many years later my wife went off to Bosnia for six months and I decided it was time to get back into the sport.  I went off to Empuria in Spain, did AFF and haven’t looked back.

Having spent the first 500 or so jumps freeflying and after a two year break from skydiving whilst in Brunei (blagged one jump with the RBAF, and a few in Oz) I came back to the UK, and continued to jump on most weekends.

As a full time photographer by day it seemed only natural to start taking pictures in freefall.  I now regularly film tandems and am the regular cameraman for big way events at Netheravon.  I love doing 4-way camera and also teach the occasional static line course.

I love trying new things and have recently completed my first wing suit flight, which was a blast, and something I’ll definitely have another go at.

My aim in the sport is to continue to improve my freefall video and photography and hopefully one day to get involved with national big way events as a cameraman, and possibly to do my AFF and tandem instructors ratings.

Outside of the sport my two year old son, Joshua, takes up a lot of my time and I lecture part time in photography at Salisbury College.

I’m also too young to join G.I.T.S!
